Destiny, thy name is Málaga!
Mexican goalkeeper Guillermo “Memo” Ochoa has joined La Liga club Málaga for a so far undisclosed fee. Ochoa arrived as free agent after his contract with Ajaccio expired this summer.
Memo Ochoa rose to international fame during the FIFA World Cup™ Brazil 2014 in the group stage match against Brazil. Oddly enough, Ochoa was not the first-choice keeper for coach Miguel Herrera, who decided to use Ochoa just a few days before the beginning of the tournament.
Last term Málaga ended in eleventh position in La Liga with 45 points… that’s 45 points below the title holders Atlético de Madrid (90 points). They were not eligible to play the UEFA Champions League or UEFA Europa League. Recently appointed manager Javi Garcia will certainly have his hands full trying to improve the team’s performance this season.
Ochoa, who hails from Guadalajara, Jalisco (Mexico) arrived in La Rosaleda this Wednesday to agree on the last details and terms with the club’s administration. The goalkeeper reportedly turned down offers from several other clubs before signing with Los Boquerones.
