The FIFA World Cup™ has come to an end. Ultimately, social unrest and violent protests were not the highlight of the tournament. World-class football was, with brilliant goal scoring and terrific saves by more than just a couple of previously unknown keepers. Dramatic matches, several of them settled after extra-time.
No underdogs in the final rounds though. Belgium performed radiantly, as expected but they succumbed to Argentina in the quarter finals. Costa Rica, the revelation of the Cup, suffered the same fate before the Dutch team, all-time giants, all-time favourites.
In the end, the German squad earned the trophy, as Gary Lineker would’ve predicted:
Football is a simple game. Twenty-two men chase a ball for 90 minutes and at the end, the Germans always win.
