“Heroin is very agreeable”
Blur frontman and Britpop icon Damon Albarn has admitted the use of heroin in the past, sparking scandal and reactions of disapproval. The news was reported in The Telegraph by the Crime Correspondent for starters.
NME has also quoted the Q Magazine interview in which Albarn made the controversial comments:
Albarn went on to say that he gave up the drug with the aid of just two aspirin tablets, but added: “It turns you into a very isolated person. Ultimately, anything that you are truly dependent on is not good.” Explaining why he began taking the drug, Albarn – who also stated that he had regularly taken cocaine – said: “It’s what I found going on in the front room (when I was living with Justine). The telly was on, so I just thought: ‘Why not?’ I never imagined it would become a problem.” NME.
The comment sections of most of the sites featuring the story have been used for condemnation and displeasure, although some people have been joking about Albarn’s candour instead.
Once I’d tried it (heroin), I found it initially very agreeable, and very creative: Damon Albarn.
The 46 years-old songwriter from London has been associated with different acts other than Blur, such as Gorillaz and The Good, the Bad & the Queen. According to Wikipedia he was voted in 2010 as the fourth greatest frontman of all time.
