The Barclays Premier League™ is underway and Arsenal are already in trouble. The North London squad had a disappointing start of the season at Emirates Stadium losing against Aston Villa.
Arsène Wenger faces a tough challenge after having failed to sign new talent for the Gooners during the summer. The disquieting question at this point is which top player is willing to play for Arsenal now? As far as I know, Rooney, Bale, Fàbregas, Lewandowski and even Huntelaar are either comfortable with their current team or waiting for a much juicier proposition by Chelsea or Real Madrid.
It is unlikely Arsenal will sign some of the footballers mentioned above in the next few days. Odds-on, Wenger will sign some “African promise”, an Asian “star” or a burned-out player looking for a last shot at real stardom. None of them will make the team stronger that is for sure.
Current players have to respond and take matters into their own hands. It is not like Podolski has a promising future at MLS or Arab football after Arsenal, same for Giroud and Arteta. Walcott and Wilshere have to show why they are the future of the English national team and they ought to perform flawlessly this season if they seek to leave for a better team next term. Oxlade-Chamberlain has been highly praised but has yet to prove his worth under dire circumstances.
Ultimately players have to endure and prevail otherwise they will end up failing with a team which should be at the top, or being transferred to a mediocre team just looking to avoid relegation, such as Everton or Sunderland with no chance to aspire to the title or the UEFA Champions League™.
