German midfielder Mario Götze has been officially ruled out for next weekend’s match due to injury.
The Ballspielverein Borussia 09 e.V. Dortmund attacking midfielder sustained a hamstring injury in the semi-final match against Real Madrid on April 30th, 2013 and has not fully recovered. These reports have been confirmed by UEFA and The Guardian.
The final was my big goal and in the past weeks I have battled hard for it. I am unbelievably sorry that I will not be able to help the team in this important match. I have huge belief in our team and will naturally travel with them to London to endeavour to support the lads off the pitch: Götze [Ge].
It is imperative that we take a look at the fact Götze will join arch-rivals Bayern München in July, following a € 37’000,000.00 controversial transfer which angered some of Dortmund’s fans. Now with Götze’s injury, a feasible conflict of interest will handily be avoided.
The name of Kevin Großkreutz (also from Germany) has been mentioned in the media as the strongest candidate to replace Götze and join Reus and Lewandowski in the attack next Saturday.
