So, we’ll have a German final in Wembley after all. Bayern München trashed Barça and Dortmund eliminated Real Madrid on aggregate score. The question now is, is this the beginning of a new era in European football? I don’t think so.
Barcelona and Real Madrid are still the best teams in Europe and they have been for the last five years. What happened this week should be considered as a wake-up call, a warning sign for those teams and their supporters, letting them know there is competition out there and other teams are still capable of deliver superb performances, even without the names of Cristiano Ronaldo, Messi or Iniesta on their rosters.
Borussia Dortmund and Bayern München still have a long way to go if they want to be remembered as the greatest football teams ever but let us not be troubled with history right now and let us hope for a memorable clash on May 25th, football at its best!
