25,000 refuelling missions

The 22nd Expeditionary Air Refuelling Squadron (EARS) reached a milestone of 25,000 refuelling missions on May 4th, 2012, according to the U.S. Air Force.  To general knowledge, the 22nd EARS is a provisional unit which engages in combat as a part of the war against terrorism[1].

The 25,000th mission took place somewhere over Kyrgyzstan (Central Asia).  Capt. Tanya Dubiel (pilot) was involved in the landmark operation:

I think it’s a really proud day for our unit; we’ve accomplished a lot, (…) This crew was specifically chosen (for this mission), and I think it says a lot about our crew. We’re young, but highly capable of performing the mission and doing it well: Tanya Dubiel.

The unit uses the Boeing KC-135 Stratotanker to extend the range and endurance of US tactical fighters and bombers.  This aircraft has a crew of 3 and a capacity for 37 passengers.  The passenger and cargo deck is located above the fuselage mounted tanks[2].

Cool! isn’t it?
