Amy Adams has been cast as the reporter from The Daily Planet, Lois Lane, for the new Superman movie.
Adams has been nominated for the Academy Awards™ three times, most recently for her role in ‘The Fighter’. She also appeared in the successful 2002 film ‘Catch Me If You Can’.
Henry Cavill will bring Clark Kent/Superman to life in this new movie, produced by Cristopher Nolan (‘The Dark Knight’, ‘Inception’) and with Zack Snyder (‘300’, ‘Sucker Punch’) in the director’s chair.
There was a big, giant search for Lois. For us it was a big thing and obviously a really important role (…) We did a lot of auditioning but we had this meeting with Amy Adams and after that I just felt she was perfect for it.
It goes back to what I’ve said about Superman and making him really understandable for today. What’s important to us is making him relevant and real and making him empathetic to today’s audience so that we understand the decisions he makes. That applies to Lois as well. She has to be in the same universe as him in tone and substance: Zack Snyder.
The film is set for release on December 2012.
Kate Bosworth played the Lois Lane role in the last Superman film (‘Superman Returns’) and the Canadian Erica Durance did so in the television series ‘Smallville’.
