Barça ‘gunned down’
Against all odds, the ‘Gunners’ took revenge from what happened last season and defeated their visitors in an outstanding comeback.
David Villa gave the 2009 UEFA Champions League™ winners the initiative midway through the first half and though Lionel Messi contrived to miss a couple of gilt-edged opportunities, it seemed it would be enough.
The second half was different though. Arsenal refused to give up and Robin van Persie delivered the equalizer with a well-taken volley from an acute angle in the 78th.
A few minutes after, Andrei Arshavin who came as a substitute, scored a brilliant goal, assisted by Samir Nasri.
There was late pressure on the home team but they endured and now live to fight another day…they head for the round of 16 second leg with plenty of confidence, however, things will not be easy at Camp Nou.
It was a stunning comeback and almost certainly Arsenal’s greatest victory at Emirates Stadium. Richard Clarke (Arsenal.com).
