South Africa 2010: what’s happening?

Zakumi: Official mascotSo far 16 matches have been played, the 32 teams have made their debut in the FIFA World Cup and just 24 goals have been scored.

Football fans all over the world feel the level of game displayed is not up to the World Cup standards yet, so what’s happening? Why have the games been dull and with few goals?

Some might blame the noisy vuvuzelas which have sparked the anger of several coaches and players; some others have complained about the Jabulani (official match ball) manufactured by Adidas™, even before the start of the tournament; maybe some players are having hard feelings about the cold weather in South Africa, I don’t know, what I do know is they have not accomplished their mission which ultimately is to entertain, to score goals, to display their real skills and to win.

At this point we can say the absence of Ronaldinho, Alexandre Pato, Francesco Totti, Alessandro Del Piero, Juan Roman Riquelme, Karim Benzema, Michael Ballack and many other top players who were left behind, is being quite noticeable… they all are being missed by the fans, and the task to make this World Cup memorable and superb is up to Wayne Rooney, Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Carlos Vela, Alberto Gilardino and Fernando Torres who are actually playing but have not glowed as expected.
