Team GB members will learn the national anthem
“No plastic Brits”
Team GB head coach Charles van Commenee will have the ‘foreign’ recruits learn the national anthem in a bid to avoid latent criticism over “plastic Brits”.
According to The Telegraph[1], members of the team who have switched allegiance will be asked to “rehearse” the anthem to ensure they are word perfect. Who are they? Well, we can name Shara Proctor, Yamile Aldama and Shana Cox.

This news is relevant given the row sparked by Tiffany Porter earlier this year. Porter (United States-born athlete) declined to sing ‘God Save the Queen’ at a news conference ahead of the World Indoor Championship. She then claimed she knew the words but lacked singing skills.
‘God Save the Queen’ is used in most of the national sporting fixtures. It has been sung since 1745 by a number of the Commonwealth realms.
